Impasto

Hi guys today i would like to share a little bit of summary about impasto. I hope you all enjoy reading it.
Impasto is a technique used in painting, where paint is presented on very thick surfaces, usually thick enough that brush strokes or drawing-knives can be seen. Paint can also be mixed right on canvas. When dry, the impasto gives the texture, the paint seems to come off the canvas. The word impasto comes from Italian; in that language it means “dough” or “mixture”; the verb “impastare” is gradually translated as “to knead,” or “to paste.” The use of the Italian word “impasto” includes painting and potting techniques. According to Webster’s New World College Dictionary, the root word impasto is pasta, which means primarily in Italian it is paste. Oil paint is best suited to impasto painting techniques, due to its thickness and slow drying time. Acrylic paints can also be impastoed. Impasto is usually not possible in watercolor or tempera without the addition of a thickening agent due to the thinning of this media. An artist working in pastel can produce a limited impasto effect by pressing soft pastels firmly on paper. Launched paint works for a number of purposes.

That all from thank you guysđź’•
